The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources has opened Al-Omariya Nursery to the public for the annual planting season, offering more than half a million locally produced seedlings at affordable prices despite a halt in imports amid regional conditions.
The initiative highlights the authority’s efforts to maintain the availability of plants through domestic production while encouraging citizens and residents to embrace home gardening and contribute to greening efforts across the country. The nursery, located in Al-Omariya, is open to visitors from 8 am to noon daily, except Fridays and Saturdays, and will continue operating until December 30. Seedlings are being sold at promotional prices ranging from 50 fils to KD 1, with payments accepted through KNET only.
79 Varieties Available, More to Come
Al-Masbahi, director of the authority in Al-Omariya, told Al-Rai that all seedlings offered at the nursery this season were produced locally. She said 79 varieties of seedlings in different sizes were initially available, with additional types expected to be introduced in the coming days. The upcoming selection will include roses in various varieties and colors, alongside an expanded range of plants to meet public demand.
More than half a million seedlings were reported to be available at the start of the season, with production continuing to increase supplies. Al-Masbahi credited the authority’s employees with helping compensate for the interruption in imports and ensuring a steady local supply of seedlings at prices accessible to the public.

Popular Plants, Flowers and Fruit Trees
The nursery offers a wide selection of plants, including moringa, arak, sidr, papyrus, jasmine, mint and basil, as well as vegetable seedlings. Flower varieties include vinca, petunia and marigold, while fruit trees available to visitors include pomegranate, lemon, orange, grape and mulberry. Oleander, roses and other ornamental plants are also part of the selection.
The authority has arranged the display areas according to plant types, with names and prices clearly marked to help visitors make their selections. Shopping carts and staff assistance are available to facilitate purchases, with particular consideration given to elderly visitors and people with disabilities.

Al-Masbahi also praised the efforts of the authority’s staff in organizing the nursery and acknowledged the Ministry of Interior personnel for managing visitor entry and exit amid strong public turnout on the opening day. Reassuring visitors about the availability of plants, she said the authority would continue increasing production and introducing new varieties throughout the season, with updates to be announced so that the public can follow the latest offerings.
The authority has invited citizens and residents to visit Al-Omariya Nursery, take advantage of the affordable prices and explore the locally grown plants available throughout the season.
