Contrary to some reports, a GTA 6 review embargo will expire before its November 19th release date. Insider Gaming confirmed the development, and a trusted insider added details. Even with Rockstar cautious about leaks, the studio intends to distribute Xbox or PS5 copies by the end of October.
In May, Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe alleged Rockstar would invite the media to an undisclosed location. To minimize leaks, they would test the game there. More typically, publishers send the press physical or digital copies prior to release dates.
Since most fans expect at least 50 hours of playtime, sequestering writers may not have been practical. Beyond the story and critical missions, Leonida is larger than any of Rockstar’s previous open worlds. It now appears that reviewers will have 3 weeks or more to explore Vice City and its surroundings.
Are more leaked videos inevitable?
Considering how often 2026 has seen footage shared ahead of embargoes, the studio may have reason to worry. Marvel’s Wolverine and Silent Hill: Townfall are among the console games to supply unauthorized videos. However, the lack of an Xbox or PS5 disc should reduce the chances of GTA 6 leaks.
Some followers have also debated whether GTA 6 needs reviews given its massive pre-order sales. That said, in May, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stressed the importance of critical opinions. The executive noted Rockstar titles have earned average Metacritic scores in the mid-to-high 90s.
Ironically, Insider Gaming caused controversy with its Metacritic prediction. On a recent podcast, its contributors argued the game may not justify the immense hype. They expect many scores to fall in the 83-87 range. Needless to say, most fans are anticipating a much higher number.
