(ANSA) - ROMA, 23 OTT - The Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Embassy in Baghdad, Davide Bonvicini, visited the Habboubi Teaching Hospital in Nassiriya, during a mission to the Iraqi governorate of Dhi Qar, where he met with doctors and volunteers from “Emergenza Sorrisi,” an Italian organization that conducts medical and surgical missions to treat children with serious illnesses, train local healthcare personnel, and strengthen the capabilities of partner healthcare facilities.
During the visit, Bonvicini also met with his Iraqi colleagues, the young patients, and their families, gaining firsthand insight into the organization’s activities. Through specialized care, training, and knowledge sharing, “Emergenza Sorrisi” helps strengthen the local healthcare system and offers new treatment options for children.
The Italian Embassy expressed its support for the initiative, a concrete example of healthcare cooperation and friendship between Italy and Iraq. This commitment takes on special significance in Nassiriya, a city linked to the memory of the Italians who lost their lives there, and where collaboration between Italian and Iraqi doctors renews the bond between the two countries.
