PETALING JAYA: Federal police have arrested nine gang members linked to a series of armed robberies targeting business premises and foreigners' homes in a sting conducted late last month.
The nine, aged between 28 and 52, are part of "Geng Suria", which has been active since 2024 and is believed to be behind some 20 robberies.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said police also seized 189 ecstasy pills, weighing 101.12g, and six handphones in the sting carried out between Sept 24 and 27.
“The nine will be charged in the sessions court in Sungai Petani, Kedah, tomorrow with being part of an organised criminal group,” he said in a statement.
Kumar said police were also investigating the suspects under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
According to him, the group, led by a 30-year-old man, would arm themselves with knives or parangs when breaking into homes and would have no qualms about injuring their victims.
“Some of their victims suffered serious injuries,” he said.
He said their victims incurred losses totalling hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
Kumar also said several of the suspects had criminal records, including for break-ins, vehicle theft, and gang robbery.
