UKHRUL: The Anal Lenruwl Tangpi has questioned the delay in the commencement of the academic session of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Beru Wangkhera in Chandel despite admission of students and recruitment of staff completed.
In a press release, the ALT stated that it “strongly denounces the education policy and functioning regarding the starting of EMRS Wangkhera led by Chairman, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel.”
The ALT stated that on 20th July 2026, in the middle of the academic year, a sudden notification was issued for form submission and entrance test for Class VI & VII.

“We, the Anal student bodies (ALT), approached the Chairman, DC, Chandel regarding this sudden notification. The Chairman stated that the order was from the Ministry and therefore the school had to be started without further delay” the ALT stated.
The Anal Naga Students’ Union stated that theybrequested an extension of the date as the timeframe given was too limited. The date was then extended till 1st August 2026 for form submission and entrance test.The entrance test result was declared on 3rd August 2026.
It was informed that the date, time, and venue for document verification and admission would be notified separately. The parents waited for more than 3 weeks.On 20th August 2026, admission and document verification for Class VI & VII was held at Beru Wangkhera where the school exists, the ALT said.
Parents again had to wait for the notification for commencement of classes, the ALT said adding that after several rounds of talks with the Chairman, DC, the commencement was fixed for 21st September 2026.
“However, on that date, the school could not commence due to failure of school infrastructure.The commencement was again extended to 5th October 2026. Even after this extension, the school did not commence and the authorities have remained silent,” the ALT said.
The ALT said that the academic session at EMRS, Beru Wangkhera is still to commenced and the academic careerstudents have been wasted.
“Their academic year is being affected and they are losing interest in studies. We, the ALT, have requested the authorities several times to commence the school, but they have remained mute spectators
while students’ lives are hampered”, the ALT maintained.
It is also learned that even after release of funds for student expenses, the school authorities are not working to commence the school but are busy looking for a closed tender to handle the students’ mess, and have not been able to find one, the ALT noted.

The ALT then questioned if the school authority led by Chairman, DC, Chandel is still going to delay the school even after the students’ academic year is hampered. It further questioned if the school authority will continue to be busy looking for a closed tender instead of commencing the school. We demand immediate commencement of EMRS, Beru Wangkhera and accountability from the concerned authorities, the ALT stated.
