Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is essentially out for the rest of the 2026 season after he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, which caused blood clots to move from his legs to his lungs.
The situation is a bit convoluted as Hurts was originally diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf, but he was still able to play in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, since the clots moved to his lungs, doctors shut down his availability for the season so he can recover.
Hurts missed this past Sunday's game against the New York Jets. At the same time, Hurts's former wide receiver A.J. Brown, who is now on the Patriots, played his first game back from a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 1.

Even though they're no longer on the same team, Brown's wishing his former quarterback the best and quickest recovery.
"It's a tough situation. Got a lot of love and respect for him. Praying for him," Brown said, via Boston Herald's Doug Kyed. "Didn't know how serious it was. I think all of us kind of found that out. He's a tough guy. He can handle anything, and I don't mean that lightly. I know that's serious, but he can handle. And I pray God continues to keep his hand on him. So, it's a lot of love and respect from this way. So speedy recovery."
Hurts is receiving well wishes from all across the league and sports. For instance, Colorado football coach Deion Sanders shared a public message for Hurts on Tuesday. Sanders notably has dealt with blood clot issues and has undergone various surgeries to help his condition.
Quarterback Tanner McKee will be taking over for Hurts for the foreseeable future.
