Before his death, Chivayo shared a video of 15 brand new Toyota Fortuners, saying he was gifting his church members.
"Today I'm delighted to celebrate these 15 dedicated members of our church family from Mrehwa, Negomo and Domboshava. Your continued commitment to the Church, your respect for its teachings and your faithful service have not gone unnoticed," read part of the caption accompanied by the video below.
Speaking to ZBC, Sugar Sugar confirmed that he does not hold the logbook for the Fortuner, a development that has cast serious doubt over his legal ownership of the car. He also claimed that he had been approached and asked to hand the vehicle back, a claim that has since been disputed by the car dealer involved.
Where did the Fortuner come from?
Enterprise Car Sale owner Madzibaba Tendai Chipaga, who supplied the vehicle to Chivayo, told ZBC that no car had been formally demanded back. However, Chipaga acknowledged that roughly 15 vehicles he supplied to Chivayo are still outstanding in terms of payment, with the matter now tied up in the process of finalising the late businessman's estate.
The situation places Sugar Sugar in an uncomfortable position. Without a log book, he cannot fully claim ownership of the Fortuner, and with unpaid debts linked to the vehicle hanging over Chivayo's estate, the car's future remains uncertain.
Sugar Sugar caught in chivayo's unfinished business
Wicknell Chivayo was known for his high-profile gifting culture, splashing vehicles and cash on musicians, politicians and public figures. His death has left a trail of unresolved financial matters, and Sugar Sugar's predicament appears to be one of the more visible examples of what that means in practice.
For now, the Sungura star is left holding a car he cannot fully call his own, waiting on the outcome of a dead man's estate.
