Chris Sutton has praised Arsenal’s squad depth after the Gunners defeated Everton, just days after Bukayo Saka suffered a long-term injury. The former striker believes Mikel Arteta has enough quality in his squad to cope with the winger’s absence and continue collecting important points.
Saka has been one of Arsenal’s most influential players, so news that he would be sidelined for two months raised concerns among supporters. His creativity and attacking contributions have made him a key figure, leaving questions about how the team would perform without him.
However, Arsenal have quality alternatives in several positions, giving Arteta options to adjust his starting eleven. Their first test following Saka’s injury came against Everton, providing an opportunity to show they could still deliver without one of their biggest stars.
Arsenal demonstrate their squad depth
David Moyes has beaten Arsenal several times during his managerial career and arrived in North London hoping to secure a positive result. However, the Gunners proved too strong, producing an assured performance to claim all three points.
The victory demonstrated that Arsenal can remain competitive without Saka. Although replacing his quality is difficult, the squad has capable players who can help maintain the team’s standards during his absence.
Sutton believes this strength in numbers played an important role in the result, allowing Arteta to make changes without significantly weakening his side.

Sutton praises Arsenal’s options
Speaking via BBC Live, Sutton highlighted the importance of having reliable replacements available when key players are injured.
“It’s about squad depth and Arsenal have shown today changes which they’ve made, with Bukayo Saka being injured and out for a while, but they have players who can come in and may not be as effective but still enough to get over the line. A big three points.”
The victory offers encouragement to Arteta as he prepares for the coming fixtures. If his alternatives continue to deliver, Arsenal can manage Saka’s absence without allowing it to derail their campaign.
