Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his utter displeasure over the power interruptions in parts of the State putting farmers to inconvenience.
The Chief Minister made no secret of his anger over the reports of power interruptions in different parts of the State at a review meeting with senior officials on Wednesday. “Instructions have been issued several times to ensure there are no problems in power supply. The situation has however not improved,” he said. He questioned officials as to why steps were not taken to enhance power generation when there was scope for shortfall. More so, when there was adequate coal supply from Naini, Mahanadi and other blocks.
The Chief Minister warned the officials concerned against dereliction of duties or negligence as the coming 20 days were crucial for agriculture and steps should be taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the farm sector. “The government will not hesitate to suspend officials, including top officials of the Energy department, if they are found guilty of dereliction of duties,” he warned.
He said he would be responsible for the situation in the public view. But officials were not following the instructions given to ensure uninterrupted power supply several times. He likened the El Nino phenomenon to the Covid-19 pandemic and said officials should be geared up to effectively cater to the requirements in the coming days.
He wanted action plans to be prepared to meet the situation till next June. Special officers of Group I and II cadre should be deputed to each mandal for constant supervision and steps should be taken to see that there was no shortage of fodder.
