A Muslim tourist has sparked an online debate after posting a viral video in which he advises other Muslims against visiting Greece, claiming he didn’t find a mosque or halal food during a holiday on a Greek island.
The solo traveller, who said he had recently returned from Morocco, complained that he could find only one restaurant offering halal food during his stay. He also questioned whether he could trust the establishment because it operated as a bar as well as a restaurant.
“Don’t make this mistake. If you’re Muslim, don’t go to Greece,” he said in the video, which has attracted international attention.
The video also reached the United States, where a Newsforce presenter criticised the tourist’s complaint.
“There are 55 Muslim countries where you can eat halal. In Greece, they make delicious pork gyros, not halal,” the presenter said, before making an insulting remark about the tourist.
The video prompted a wave of comments from Greek and international social media users, many of whom supported Greece’s culinary traditions and challenged the traveller’s criticism.
“Thank you very much for your post. You saved us the trouble of banning you from anywhere in our country, by asking your Muslim colleagues to ban themselves from entering! You’re doing us a great favour!” one commenter wrote.
Another user, identifying as Greek, simply commented: “As a Greek, I agree. Don’t come.”
A third compared the complaint to seeking pork in Saudi Arabia, writing: “It’s like looking for pork in Saudi Arabia. Don’t go; you have nothing to do in Greece.”
Another international user welcomed the video, writing: “I’m sure the people of Greece would hope for more videos like this.”

“Never go to Greece as a Muslim. So I had just come back from Morocco and I was like, let me go on a solo trip, one man up to Greece. And I went to an island in Greece and basically the whole time I just stayed up.
“The reason why is because in this island, number one, there’s no masjids (mosques) in the whole island. Number two, there’s no halal food in the whole island. Literally the only “halal” food that I found was some restaurant that was a bar at the same time.
“So how can I trust that? I was literally eating Margherita pizza the whole time. Number three, I was thinking this is going to be a good detox location. It’s an island, there’s the beach, I can just chill, go swimming. How can it be more busy and more loud than anywhere in London? Turns out I just landed in an island full of English people.
“I’ll be honest, never again in my life. You know, I genuinely don’t understand how people enjoy this life. If you’re going to travel, go do things. How can you go on holiday to go to the exact same place that you left, but just as a party area? Never again. If you’re Muslim, never go to these islands.”
