Memphis football is trying to bounce back from a devastating loss on a short week.
The Tigers (5-2, 2-1 American Conference) lost to Tulane on Oct. 16 in New Orleans because of a six-turnover offensive disaster. Now they're back home on a short week to face East Carolina (3-3, 1-1) on Oct. 22 (6:30 p.m. CT, ESPN2) at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
Like Memphis, the Pirates are coming off a brutal loss. They never trailed in regulation against UAB on Oct. 15 but lost in overtime after a late touchdown drive by the Blazers to tie the game.
It's a critical conference game. Both teams went into the season with legitimate hopes to get to the conference title game, but the loser will have two conference losses and probably won't have a shot to get there.
