Most popular category among Malaysian shoppers
This 11.11 season is the time to “shop till you drop” on Taobao Malaysia in conjunction with the Taobao 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, anchored by free shipping on fashion items across the platform.
Taobao Malaysia country head Jess Lew said fashion generates the highest sales on Taobao Malaysia. It has seen strong consumer demand on the platform, with double-digit sales growth in the past five years.
“Fashion is the most loved category, where many people want to buy on Taobao. There are millions of styles on Taobao, you can search for what you want,” Lew told theSun.
“The second most-visited category people explore is snowboarding (equipment) to prepare for the December holidays,” she added.
She said 11.11 is its biggest sale of the year and that Taobao Malaysia is focusing on enhancing the user experience for shoppers.
“We want to get more users to try Taobao and get existing users to explore more items they have not discovered before.”
This year’s campaign ushers in a new chapter of value-driven convenience, integrating AI-powered shopping tools with an expanded local logistics network to eliminate traditional cross-border pain points for Malaysian consumers.
Running from 8pm tonight to Nov 13, the festival connects Malaysians to more than 3 billion products spanning fashion, home living, furniture, collectibles, hobbies, wellness and emerging lifestyle trends.
Beyond promotions, this year’s campaign reflects Taobao’s move in making cross-border shopping more convenient and reliable for Malaysian consumers.
Empowering smarter choices with integrated AI tools
Taobao Malaysia is transforming the shopping journey through four integrated AI innovations designed to enhance confidence, clarity and value:
- AI Try-On eliminates the uncertainty of online fashion by allowing users to visualise items on their own photos, fostering inclusivity and enabling frictionless style experimentation.
- AI Shopping Assistant acts as a hyper-personalised concierge to support informed decision-making, offering scenario-based recommendations alongside real-time price comparisons and quality assessments.
- AI Product Insights cuts through information overload by instantly highlighting key features, translating specifications and extracting balanced pros and cons from user reviews.
- Voice-Search-by-Hold makes it easy for users who can’t find a keyword for an item. It helps users pinpoint their true needs and cut through choice overload via voice and descriptions, helping them find products that better meet their needs amid a vast catalogue.
Collaboration with J&T Express on expanded local returns
Starting November 2026, Taobao will progressively introduce over 1,400 local return drop-off points nationwide through a collaboration with J&T Express, enabling shoppers to return eligible purchases through convenient locations across Malaysia without the need for international shipping.
The service complements Taobao Official Logistics, which provides greater certainty over shipping costs and delivery timelines, proactive support for parcel exceptions, compensation for lost or damaged shipments and one-stop customer service support throughout the shopping journey.
“Over the years, we have invested in localising the shopping journey through language support, payment partnerships, logistics enhancements and customer service improvements. The expansion of our local return network is another important step towards giving consumers greater confidence and convenience when shopping across borders,” said Lew.
More savings, greater convenience
Throughout the campaign period, Malaysian shoppers can enjoy a range of benefits designed to make shopping more rewarding and accessible.
With more than 400 million products available on Taobao Malaysia, shoppers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum spend requirement, even for single-item purchases. Consumers can also upgrade eligible orders to air shipping, with delivery in as fast as five days in key cities.
Besides the fashion category, free shipping has also been expanded across more categories, including home & living, tableware, toys & pet accessories, beauty tools, travel essentials and more.
As home improvement and personal living spaces become increasingly important to Malaysian consumers, Taobao has also seen growing interest in furniture and home furnishing products, particularly large items such as sofas.
To support this trend, more than 1 million furniture, including sofas, dining tables and height-adjustable desks, are now eligible for direct shipping to Malaysia. During the 11.11 Festival, shoppers can also grab up to RM30 in furniture shipping vouchers on eligible purchases.
Combined with Taobao Official Logistics’ compensation protection for eligible damaged items, consumers can shop for larger home investments with confidence and peace of mind.
Building on the excitement surrounding Taobao ambassador Zhang Linghe, together with Zhang-themed app interface and daily treasure hunt campaign, Taobao’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival 2026 delivers greater choice, convenience and discovery for shoppers across Malaysia.
