KUALA LUMPUR: Whitney Isabelle Wilson won the girls' Under-19 title of the Milo All Star Malaysian Junior Open Squash Championships on Sunday.
The 18-year-old rushed following her exams at Universiti Malaya in the morning to play the final at the National Squash Courts on Jalan Duta.
Top seed Whitney came back from a game down to beat Hong Kong's Elaine Chung 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 5-11, 11-8 in the final.
Whitney, who was runners-up in the Under-19 category at the Asian Junior Championships in Panzhihua, China in May, said she almost missed the girls' final due to her exam.
"I had reading, writing and listening exams at Universiti Malaya in the morning, which took a few hours to finish.
"I rushed to the squash courts and luckily the final was delayed as the other younger age-group finals were still going on.
"But I was hungry and struggled in the final due to tension after my exams.
"I was disappointed with my performance as I lost the first game but I never gave up and fought back to win the next three games to win the title," said Whitney, who was a member of the Malaysian team who won team silver at the World Junior Championships in Canada in July.
Whitney said her last outing at the junior level will be the British Junior Open in Birmingham from Jan 2-6.
"After that, I will focus on the PSA tournaments to further improve my world rankings," said Whitney.
