IMPHAL, Oct 11: Followers of Sanamahi faith and members of different communities, including Kabui, Chothe and Maring, took part in the 'Mera Chaorel Houba Laining Khongchat' on Mera Nongma Panba today.
The procession from the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple at Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham to Kangla was organised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand's wife Yumnam ongbi Joybala took part in the procession.
The procession which started from the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple passed through Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai, Uripok and Khwairamband Ima Keithel before reaching Kangla.
On the occasion, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) vice-president and Keirao AC MLA Lourembam Rameshwor underscored the importance of promoting indigenous faith and religion and stressed that the Sanamahi faith must be preserved and promoted.
The Board's secretary, Sandham Gandharaj said that the Mera Chaorel Houba is a "sacred tradition that has been passed down to us from our ancestors".
The procession is organised praying for peace to return to Manipur and prosperity, he said.
The Mera Chaorel Houba ritual was also organised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup with a procession from Kangla to Sanamahi Kiyong at Selloi Langmai Ching today.
Former MP Leishemba Sanajaoba took part in the procession.
On the occasion, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the Mera Chaorel Houba is a sacred ritual that has been passed down for generations.
The ritual is dedicated to Lainingthou Sanamahi and Leimarel Sidabi. May this occasion bring peace and prosperity to all the people, he said.
Stating that the Sanamahi Kiyong had been declared by the State as a tourist spot, Leishemba said he would take up every possible effort to develop the Temple and its surrounding.
He assured that he would urge the Government to earmark a budget for the Temple's development and activities.
Angom Ningthou Poireiton, Khurai AC MLA L Susindro, Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha, and many officials of Konung were present. Traditional songs and dances were performed on the occasion.
