Leaders allied to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) have condemned what they describe as a growing culture of political insults and disrespect, accusing the government of fuelling divisive rhetoric ahead of next year’s general election.
Led by party Secretary-General John Methu during a tour of
Kajiado County, the leaders claimed the government was feeling the heat from
the opposition and had resorted to personal attacks instead of issue-based
politics.
They seized the opportunity to lash out at the Kenya Kwanza
administration, accusing President William Ruto of promoting hate politics
through insults, name-calling and what they termed misplaced anger.
The legislators also faulted the President over what they
described as misplaced priorities and a deteriorating economy.
“Alituambia hii serikali ni ya mama mboga. Kuna mtu wa mama
mboga ako kwa serikali? Kuna mtu wa bodaboda ako kwa serikali?” Methu noted.
Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo added: “Alisema
ataleta maendeleo hapa Kajiado. Kuna barabara imeletwa hapa? Kuna maji yameletwa
hapa?”
The leaders questioned the government’s push for water
buffalo milk production amid reports of cattle deaths in Samburu, where
livestock remains a vital source of livelihood for many families.
“Ningetaka
kuongelesha Murkomen na Ruto kwa kuua ng’ombe za Maasai, kisha unatuambia
tutafute buffalo tukamue,” Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa said.
They urged Kajiado residents to elect leaders who prioritise
public interests, while calling for opposition unity to strengthen the
challenge against the current administration.
