By Zoila Palma: Chunox St. Viator Vocational High School hosted World Food Day celebration today bringing attention to the importance of food security, sustainable agriculture and innovation in ensuring a better food future for all.
This year’s theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” highlights the need to embrace agricultural technologies, promote environmentally responsible farming practices and improve access to safe, nutritious and affordable food.
The observance also recognized the essential contributions of farmers and food suppliers who help ensure food reaches communities across the country.
Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for greater adoption of agricultural innovations and stronger support for farmers.
He noted that in 2025, approximately 645 million people worldwide faced hunger, while about one in three people could not afford a healthy diet. Ferguson stressed that governments, communities, businesses and agricultural institutions must work together to strengthen food systems and ensure innovations reach those who need them most.
Minister Ferguson also commended St. Viator for its commitment to agriculture and encouraged the school to continue involving students in the sector. “I am also happy to see St. Viator seems to be keen on transforming lives by continuing the practice of agriculture within its curriculum,” Ferguson said.
He further expressed hope that infrastructure investments made by his Ministry would be properly maintained, stating, “I hope to see the infrastructure investments my ministry has made in the same or better condition than today in the next 6 months, and even next year.”
