The Gunners saw off Napoli away from home and are heavy favourites on betting sites to get the better of Lille on Tuesday. United, who defeated Champions League debutants FC Sabah in their opening game, face a far tougher examination when they go to Atletico Madrid.

Champions League betting tips - Matchday two
Our betting experts have picked out their favourite Champions League bets for the upcoming round of matches, with a focus on the Premier League competitors.
Arsenal vs Lille
(8pm, TNT Sports 1)
Arsenal struggled to get going for large parts of Saturday’s win over Leeds, but should have an easier time of it when old boy Olivier Giroud brings his Lille side to the Emirates Stadium.
Lille conceded three at home in their first Champions League outing and while their defensive record in the French top flight is better, they were breached twice by Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners have won their last 13 league-phase games, but there’s little value in backing them just to win at odds of 1/4.
Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in 18 of the last 24 home European games and could shut out Lille here. A shut out coupled with Arsenal’s lacking of attacking fluency at times this season suggests a low scoring home win.
Best bet: Arsenal & under 3.5 goals - 11/10 (Sky Bet)
Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United
(8pm, Prime Video)
The bookies aren’t expecting much from United in this one with all the major football betting sites making Atletico Madrid odds-on favourites. Michael Carrick’s side are enduring their worst start to a season in 40 years and they’ve yet to win away from home.
Atletico have won four on the spin in the league, including a 2-1 victory over city rivals Real, but were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in their opening Champions League tie, part of a run of poor results against Premier League opposition.
This isn’t the same Atleti side that would grind out wins in the past though with the goals forthcoming at both ends in recent Champions League matches, while United have given up chances freely and could have lost Saturday’s clash with Tottenham had Spurs not been so wasteful.
The odds on goals are pretty short so preference goes to Atletico’s Alejandro Grimaldo to register a goal or assist. He’s registered three goals and an assist for Atleti in his last four outings and is on penalty taking duty.
Best bet: Alejandro Grimaldo score or assist anytime - 15/8 (Paddy Power)

Champions League final betting markets
There’s a huge selection of markets for Champions League matches, many of which are free bet eligible. Here’s a selection of the more common Champions League betting markets:
- Match result (1X2): Bettors are picking which side will win, or if there will be a draw. For finals, odds are typically tighter than regular knockout rounds given the neutral venue and high stakes, as well as the fact a game may go to extra time. Match bets only cover the outcome after 90 minutes and don’t apply to the final result after extra time and penalties.
- Over/under: Bettors can wager on whether they think there will be more or less of an event in the Champions League, such as corners, bookings or shots. The most common event to bet on is goals, with the over/under 2.5 goals market very popular. Remember, finals tend to be cautious affairs, which makes this market worth understanding before placing.
- Both teams to score (BTTS): A yes/no wager on whether both sides will find the back of the net or not. Historically, Champions League finals produce fewer goals than regular fixtures, which will be reflected in how this market trades.
- First goalscorer: One of the most popular markets for major finals as bettors wager on who will open the scoring. Odds vary significantly by player role, recent form and set-piece involvement.
- Correct score: Bets on the final score of the Champions League. This market usually applies to the result after 90 minutes. Historically, 1-0 and 2-1 are among the most common final scorelines in the Champions League era.
Of course, bettors can combine all of the above in a bet builder, increasing the odds by creating a single bet featuring several legs. All the Champions League betting sites on our list have a bet builder tool.
If a punter didn’t get a bet on before kick-off, there’s a massive selection of in-play markets, with odds frequently updated as the game progresses.
