Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung said energy transformation in the country is on the right track toward realizing national energy sovereignty.
"Indonesia's energy transformation is on the right track toward national energy sovereignty, domestic added value, job creation, and public welfare," Tanjung said at the 2026 Subroto Energy Award Night held here on Friday night (Oct 23).
He outlined several achievements in recent years. In oil and gas, he said, Indonesia last year managed to exceed the oil lifting target set in the 2025 State Budget (APBN).
The lifting target set at that time was 605,000 barrels of oil per day and Indonesia realized oil lifting of 605,300 barrels per day.
"Over the past nine years, this is a fairly significant achievement," Tanjung added.

This year, he said, the government has been pushing production up to 610,000 barrels per day. However, obstacles in realization have kept the target from being reached yet.
"Of course, we are working together on how this set minimum target can be achieved together," he said.
In the renewable energy, Tanjung said the government successfully realized its main program, B50 biodiesel biofuel, in July 2026.
He said B50 implementation diversifies petroleum use by around 310,000 barrels per day. Currently, oil consumption in Indonesia stands at 1.6 million barrels.
"Of course, to cover the shortfall, we are procuring fuel oil from imports, both crude and products, which has been done by various business entities," he said.

In the electricity sector, the national electrification ratio has reached 99.85 percent. The most important aspect is the government's ability to expand the power grid so all villages can get electricity.
"So that no one in society is left without experiencing energy self-reliance and the public's rights can also be fulfilled, this is part of the state's responsibility to provide energy for the public," Tanjung said.
He also highlighted the government's efforts to push 18 priority downstreaming and energy security projects with investment worth around Rp618 trillion. Most project sites are outside Java Island.
"We realize that our work is still far from finished. We still have to fight together to improve national energy security, reduce energy import dependence, improve the investment climate, and address the challenges of equitable distribution and reliability of energy supply nationally," Tanjung noted.
