The Detroit Red Wings are a bit of a mess right now. Detroit is dealing with two trade requests at this time. Young star Simon Edvinsson, one of the players with a trade request on the table, is unsigned. And they are not having a great time on the ice to start the new season.
There are a lot of reasons to be pessimistic this season. Fans certainly are, with chants of “Sell The Team” rocking Little Caesars Arena multiple times this year. However, the players are remaining upbeat, according to star winger Alex DeBrincat.
“Obviously, (there has been) a lot of noise on the outside, but in here, we’re trying to stay close-knit and just like coming to the rink every day,” DeBrincat said, via NHL.com. “I think we’ve done a good job. Everyone’s in good spirits, and we’re having fun.”

Detroit is trying to foster a culture of togetherness. The franchise is certainly going through a low point. Not only are the Red Wings working through a franchise-record playoff drought, but they also own the longest active playoff drought in the league.
However, they want to remain loose. Stressing about every little thing could lead to things snowballing more than they already are. It’s still early in the season, as well. There remains a ton of time to clean things up.
Red Wings fans want things to change sooner rather than later, though. This could be 11 seasons without playoff hockey. The team is essentially falling apart in front of them, too. It will be interesting to see how Detroit’s approach to this poor start affects the team moving forward.
