MELAKA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong walked out of the hall during the introduction of Barisan Nasional's candidates for the Melaka election last night, reports said.
Sinar Harian reported that Wee left the hall at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) amid MCA's dissatisfaction with the seats allocated to the party for the election.
Wee was quoted as saying that MCA had voiced its objections to the allocation and requested that negotiations continue, but the decisions were finalised without the party's agreement.
He also said the party would not recognise the announcement of candidates made without MCA's consent.
"If the MCA president himself has not signed it, how can it be recognised?" he said.
Commenting on his decision to leave the event, Wee said he was not there to express personal dissatisfaction, but to defend MCA's dignity and rights as a BN component party.
He also called on BN's central leadership to intervene to resolve the impasse, stressing that decisions on candidates should be made through mutual consultation.
BN had earlier decided to contest 21 of the 28 state seats, with the remaining seven allocated to Pas and its strategic partners.
