A man has been arrested after he led police on a high-speed chase through Sydney’s west, culminating in an SUV bursting into flames on a busy road in the middle of peak-hour traffic.
Police spotted the man driving a Nissan X Trail with allegedly stolen number plates about 8am on Friday though Cartwright Ave in Cartwright before flashing their lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

A pursuit began but was terminated shortly after.
Eventually, the car was located on Brown Rd in Bonnyrigg Heights after it crashed into a Volkswagen sedan carrying a 50-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl and burst into flames.
The people in the Volkswagen were not injured

Images taken about 8.30am and posted on a local Facebook group show black plumes of smoke billowing out of the X-Trail’s crumpled front end as flames lick the car’s windscreen.
Police said two men and one woman fled the scene shortly before the vehicle caught fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews quickly extinguished the blaze, and a short time later a 30-year-old man was arrested on Dransfield Rd in Bonnyrigg Heights.
He is yet to be charged.
