Ohio State delivered one of its biggest victories of the season Saturday, defeating No. 5 Indiana 19-15 in a dramatic Big Ten showdown.
The fourth-ranked Buckeyes entered the matchup looking to avenge last season's Big Ten Championship Game loss to the Hoosiers, and that’s exactly what they did.
The victory improved Ohio State's record to 6-1 while handing Indiana its first loss of the season and snapping the program's 22-game winning streak.
Both defenses controlled much of the afternoon, making every scoring opportunity important.
Ohio State opened the game with a field goal before Indiana took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run by Turbo Richard. However, quarterback Julian Sayin responded just before halftime.
Facing fourth down, Sayin connected with running back Bo Jackson for a 2-yard touchdown with seven seconds remaining, giving the Buckeyes a 10-7 advantage.
Ohio State extended its lead to 13-7 in the third quarter before delivering its biggest offensive play early in the fourth. Sayin found star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith for a 38-yard touchdown, pushing the Buckeyes ahead 19-7 after a failed two-point conversion.
Indiana refused to go away.
Quarterback Josh Hoover connected with Nick Marsh for a 19-yard touchdown before completing a two-point conversion to Richard, cutting Ohio State's lead to four points.
The Buckeyes then suffered a significant setback when Sayin exited the game with an apparent upper-body injury. Freshman quarterback Luke Fahey entered in his place, leaving Ohio State relying heavily on its defense to protect the lead.
Indiana had one final opportunity to complete the comeback.
Hoover drove the Hoosiers into scoring position, but a fourth-down pass toward the end zone fell incomplete after the intended receiver was unable to make a catch in bounds.
The defensive stand secured an important victory for Ryan Day's program.
The result also carried additional significance after Indiana defeated Ohio State 13-10 in last year's conference championship before winning the national title.
Saturday's victory did more than strengthen Ohio State's position in the Big Ten standings.
It gave the Buckeyes a signature win over a top-five opponent and reinforced their status as a legitimate national championship contender.
Indiana's winning streak may be over, but the Hoosiers remain firmly in the College Football Playoff conversation despite the setback.

For Ohio State, the 19-15 victory was about more than improving its record. The Buckeyes entered Bloomington with something to prove against a team that had gotten the better of them before.
This time, Ohio State made sure the outcome was different.
