Viking FK is preparing to face Bayern Munich tomorrow, and Norwegian defender Henrik Falchener knows his side will have its hands full trying to contain one of the most prolific strikers in world football. However, his approach is to treat Kane like any other opponent, despite acknowledging just how dangerous the England captain can be.
“Harry Kane is a very good player, but we are all human. You have to put in your mind that he’s a pretty ordinary striker, even though he is one of the best in that position. We’ve watched the videos and we know what to expect, what he is good at, and what we have to avoid with him,” Falchener said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Falchener was also asked whether Kane or Manchester City striker Erling Haaland presents the tougher challenge for a defender. While he recognized the different qualities of both forwards, he admitted that he would rather come up against Bayern’s No. 9.
“They’re different types of players. Haaland is insanely big physically, fast and strong. Kane is a little more technical. He drops deeper and is more involved in the game. And he’s also quite dangerous in front of goal. I personally feel it would suit me better to face Kane than Haaland. When Haaland turns on the turbo, he’s gone,” Falchener noted.
Falchener might be trying to keep things simple mentally, but stopping Kane is another challenge entirely. Bayern will hope their star striker makes that abundantly clear when the two squads square off.
