JOHOR BARU: A family's plans to celebrate a 7-year-old boy's birthday next week were shattered when he died after falling from the 10th floor of their home at the Sungai Melana Phase 2 People's Housing Project (PPR) in Tampoi here.
His mother, Norhidayah Yacob, 30, said the family had planned to celebrate Mohammad Adib Rizqy Mohammad Fauzi's birthday yesterday but had to postpone it because her husband, Mohammad Fauzi Zurin, 31, who works as a lorry attendant, had yet to receive his salary.
"We had planned to celebrate my son's birthday next Tuesday, as it is also my husband's birthday.
"However, we accept what has been decreed by Allah. My son also passed away on this blessed Friday," she said when met at the scene.
The housewife said she was tidying up the house when the incident occurred, while her husband was away at work.
She learnt of the incident after one of her son's friends informed her.
"At first, I thought my son's friend was joking. When I went out and looked down from upstairs, I saw my son on the ground floor.
"I rushed downstairs and trembled when I saw that he was no longer moving before calling my husband to tell him what had happened," she said.
The victim, a Standard One pupil at SK Tampoi Utama, fell from the 10th floor of the PPR block around 5.30pm.
His body was sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah here for a post-mortem.
