US stocks closed lower on Friday, while Brazil’s real strengthened 1.6% against the dollar.
Today is built for a free morning at a museum, a film in the afternoon, and a relaxed dinner in Pinheiros.

What to See & Do
SATURDAY IN SÃO PAULO
TODAY’S PICK — CENTRO CULTURE
Free art, cinema and a look-alike contest
Start at the Centro Cultural São Paulo on Rua Vergueiro, in Paraíso. Check the day’s programme before you go.
The building sits next to Vergueiro metro station on the blue line. Use the single fare of R$5.40.
Pinacoteca de São Paulo is open until 6 pm in Luz, a short walk from Luz station.
OUTDOORS — BEFORE THE RAIN
Ibirapuera and Vila Madalena in the morning
Walk Parque Ibirapuera early, from 5 am, when the air is coolest. The park is free and mostly empty before 9 am.
Then take a taxi to Beco do Batman in Vila Madalena. The open-air graffiti lanes are always open and free.
Grab a pão de queijo at a nearby bakery before the showers arrive by early afternoon.
COFFEE & WHERE TO WORK — PINHEIROS
Reliable wifi, good coffee, weekend calm
Pinheiros works well today. Coffee Lab on Rua Fradique Coutinho has strong coffee and steady wifi, opening by 10 am.
Sofa Café on Rua dos Pinheiros suits laptops on weekends, with comfortable tables and a quieter room upstairs.
Both are near Fradique Coutinho station on the yellow line. Arrive before noon to beat the rainy-afternoon crowd.
THE CONTRASTING PLAY — HALLOWEEN MOEMA
Family energy in a leafy square
For a complete mood shift, go to Praça David Nasser in Moema. The Festival Halloween Moema takes place today on Praça David Nasser.
Expect costumes, children’s activities and food stalls. It is loud, bright and very local.
Pair it with lunch at a Moema padaria nearby. The square is a short walk from Eucaliptos station.
TONIGHT, AFTER 7 PM
Films, dance and a closing drink
The 50th Mostra Internacional de Cinema runs through October 29. Check the day’s screenings at CineSesc on Rua Augusta, in Consolação.
Sesc Pompeia in Barra Funda is open into the evening; check its programme for film times.
For dinner, walk to Pinheiros. Bar do Juarez on Rua dos Pinheiros does honest Brazilian food.
End at A Casa da Cachaça in Vila Madalena for a quiet cachaça tasting without the street-festival crowds.
ALSO ON TODAY
Festival Halloween Moema — Praça David Nasser, Moema — today; kids and costumes
50th Mostra Internacional de Cinema — Various venues — through October 29, about 380 films from more than 90 countries
MASP free Tuesday preview — MASP, Avenida Paulista — open today 10 am to 6 pm, R$85
04
Getting Around
TRANSPORT
The metro runs normally today. The single-journey fare is R$5.40, exact number.
Rodízio is not active on Saturdays. Weekend driving is free of the licence-plate rotation across the centre.
05
Where to Eat
LUNCH & DINNER
Lunch: Try Casa do Porco in Centro for the famous pork sandwich, around R$30. For a cheaper bite, Mercado Municipal do Centro opens 6 am to 6 pm with mortadella stands.
Dinner: Head to Pinheiros for Consulado da Pizza, with individual pizzas around R$60. Or try Jesuíno Brilhante for charcoal-grilled meat, around R$80 per person.
06
Practical Info
GOOD TO KNOW
Carry cash and cards; most cafés take Pix, but small bars may not accept foreign cards.
Book a table for dinner after 8 pm, especially in Pinheiros and Vila Madalena.
Keep your phone close in Centro after dark. Walk down well-lit main streets, not empty side alleys.
07
Community & Lifestyle
FOR NEWCOMERS
Look for expat meetups in Pinheiros and Vila Madalena, often posted on local WhatsApp groups and Internations.
The Mostra Internacional de Cinema draws a mixed crowd. Queues outside CineSesc are a natural place to meet film fans.
08
Game Day
THE WEEKEND ROUND
No major São Paulo club fixture is confirmed for today. Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo fans should check club channels for Sunday updates.
If a match appears, watch at O’Malleys Pub in Itaim Bibi, open from 5 pm with large screens.
The Blue Pub in Pinheiros also shows live football, with English-speaking staff and a good beer list.
For a local feel, any boteco in Mooca will have the game on, but arrive early to claim a table.
09
Business & Markets
WEEK IN FIGURES

FAQ
QUICK ANSWERS

Yes, in most areas during daylight. Ibirapuera, Avenida Paulista and Vila Madalena are fine.
In Centro, stay on main streets like Rua Vergueiro and avoid empty laneways after dark.
Always keep your phone in a front pocket or bag, never in a back pocket.
What can I do for free today?
Beco do Batman and Parque Ibirapuera are free.
Check each venue for opening hours and ticket prices before you go.
For cinema, check the official programme of the 50th Mostra.
Will the rain ruin my day?
No. Showers are likely after early afternoon but not constant.
Plan outdoor things for morning and museums or films for later.
Most venues are indoor and connected by the metro, so wet weather is manageable.
