KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will focus on strengthening its preparations for the Melaka election after the High Court today stayed the Registrar of Societies Malaysia's (RoS) action to cancel the coalition's registration.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said PN was grateful for the decision and maintained that it was on the right track in defending its rights through legal channels.
He said efforts by those seeking to "erase" PN would not weaken the coalition's resolve, adding that it would remain steadfast and continue its struggle.
"Thank you to everyone for their prayers, support and patience, as well as to the legal team for their tireless efforts.
"We will continue to respect the ongoing legal process and firmly defend our rights.
"Now, the entire machinery must focus fully on the Melaka election. Strengthen preparations, foster closer cooperation and offer the best for the people. We will keep moving forward," he said in a statement here today.
The High Court allowed PN's application to stay the implementation of the RoS action pending the full disposal of the substantive judicial review proceedings.
Judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad made the decision after finding that exceptional circumstances justified the stay, particularly given the potential harm to the applicant's political activities and participation in the country's electoral system.
It was previously reported that RoS had confirmed the cancellation of PN's registration after finding that the coalition's explanations had failed to refute the grounds for cancellation stated in an earlier notice.
RoS said the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 after reviewing all documents and representations submitted by PN on Oct 12.
