(ANSA) - ROME, 12 OTT - Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, together with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, sent a letter to European Council President António Costa urging a fast track for energy investments ahead of the European Council meeting on October 15-16.
Sources at Palazzo Chigi reported that the initiative follows last week's meeting of the informal "Friends of Competitiveness" group and noted that "the letter places particular emphasis on the link between simplification, high energy costs, and industrial competitiveness." The letter, it was explained, calls for exploring three avenues: a fast-track process to accelerate investments in priority sectors, starting with energy and digitalization; a curb on new bureaucratic burdens; and a general reduction in EU reporting obligations, particularly for SMEs.
