KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has yet to decide which logo its candidates will use in the Melaka election.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition had sufficient time to finalise its decision on the seats to contest, candidates to field and logo to use.
He said the matter would be discussed with component parties Pas, Gerakan, Parti Wawasan Negara and Pejuang before a decision could be made.
"This is nothing unusual. We have yet to make a decision as there is still plenty of time. We will decide which seats to contest, the candidates to field and the logo to use.
"The 31st (Oct 31, nomination day for the Melaka election) is not two days away. We still have plenty of time," he told a press conference at Parliament today.
Takiyuddin said the use of a common logo was not new in Malaysian politics, citing the 2018 14th General Election, when Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties used the PKR logo.
He said PN had 62 MPs supporting the coalition in Parliament.
"We have 62 MPs who stand together in support of PN. We have a shared responsibility towards the people," he said.
In a related development, Takiyuddin said PN's court application, scheduled to be heard on Thursday, also sought to protect Melaka voters' right to choose their representatives in the Nov 14 state election.
He said the legal action was not solely to protect PN's interests, but also to defend the rights of the people of Melaka, particularly the more than 600,000 eligible voters.
He claimed voters would be denied the opportunity to vote for PN if the coalition were barred from contesting the election.
"This is not just about PN's interests, but also those of the people, particularly the people of Melaka," he said.
Earlier, the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) confirmed it had cancelled PN's registration, saying the coalition's explanation failed to address the grounds for cancellation outlined in an earlier notice.
RoS said the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), after reviewing documents and representations submitted by PN on Oct 12.
It said an earlier notice dated Sept 22 had been issued under subsection 13(2) of the Act, giving the coalition 30 days to explain why its registration should not be cancelled.
