Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom has spent much of the past few months trolling the WNBA, declaring himself a woman and a prospect for the 2027 WNBA Draft in an effort to mock transgender athletes. Now, it appears that he’s planning to bring that act to the league’s biggest stage.
On Saturday, Kanter Freedom announced that he will be in attendance for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream, teasing yet another T-shirt and taking shots at Valkyries forward Gabby Williams and Dream star Angel Reese along the way.
Kanter Freedom’s Bad-Faith Campaign
Kanter Freedom declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft in August, arguing that the league’s collective bargaining agreement doesn’t define what a woman is. League sources described his declaration, along with a similar one from former NBA player Royce White, as “publicity stunts,” according to Sports Illustrated, and neither is eligible to play in the league.
Later that month, Kanter Freedom sat courtside at a Chicago Sky game against the Indiana Fever wearing a shirt that defined a woman as an “adult human female.” He got into a heated exchange with Sky guard Natasha Cloud and was escorted out of the arena by security, and the Sky have since banned him indefinitely from their home games.
Cloud later brushed him off as “an irrelevant person,” while Kanter Freedom went on to file a lawsuit against the Sky over his ejection and ban. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump even got in on the act, giving Kanter Freedom and Dennis Rodman “full pardons” to play in women’s sports during a rally in Oklahoma.
Kanter Freedom’s claim about the Sky-Fever game isn’t quite right, either. The Sky-Fever matchup drew 3.31 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, making it the most-watched WNBA regular-season game since the league’s opening weekend in 1997, not the most-watched game in league history.
‘This one is going to BLOW YOUR MINDS!’
In a lengthy post on X on Saturday, Kanter Freedom announced plans to attend Wednesday night’s Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in Atlanta.
“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be in Atlanta on October 21st for Game 3 of the @WNBA Finals!” Kanter Freedom wrote. “As you all know, this all started with an interview featuring Gabby Williams of the Golden State @valkyries, when she said, ‘I have no problem with trans athletes playing on my team or against my team.’ Her words gave me so much hope and motivation to come out as a woman and officially declare for the #WNBA Draft.”
“I can’t wait to watch my favorite player, the woman who inspired me to become who I am today!” he continued.
Kanter Freedom then turned his attention to Reese, who was traded to the Dream in April.
“Second, my favorite diva has unfortunately blocked me on social media. But that won’t stop me from showing my appreciation for the one and only @Reese10Angel! I can’t wait to take some notes on how to finish a layup after grabbing a rebound,” Kanter Freedom wrote.
“I’m excited to support all the hardworking women in the WNBA and scout the competition before I dominate the league next year, unless they change the rules!” he added. “And remember, the last time I attended a WNBA game, it became the most-watched game in league history! Your Welcome.”
Kanter Freedom closed the post by teasing his outfit for the game.
“Lastly, everyone keeps asking me the same question: ‘What T-shirt are you going to wear this time?’ Well, let me tell you something… This one is going to BLOW YOUR MINDS! ARE YOU READY?!”
