The Khorgos International Border Cooperation Center is introducing an electronic screening system called QGate. Once fully operational, it will reduce border crossing time to just 10 seconds. Authorities expect this will help shorten queues, as approximately 5,000 people cross the border to the center every day, Channel Seven reported.
Khorgos remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Zhetysu region, which has welcomed over 2 million tourists over the first ten months of the year. Within the region, people usually travel to Lake Alakol, Lake Balkhash, Altyn-Emel National Park and the border cooperation center.
According to Murat Madiyev, a chief specialist at the regional tourism department, Khorgos hosted approximately 2 million visitors last year.
«Last year, the border cooperation center saw about 2 million visitors, and revenue from ticket sales exceeded three billion tenge,» Madiyev stated.
Although shopping is the primary activity for visitors to Khorgos, they can also explore a Chinese cultural museum, a 9D cinema and a park. Overall, Khorgos has launched around 50 new tourism projects so far.
