Riyadh – The death toll from the attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, has risen to two, according to a new tally announced by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels continue to target airports and oil facilities in the Kingdom.
In a follow-up statement published on the X platform, GACA reported that "the number of deaths resulting from the attack has risen to two, after confirming an additional fatality: a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident. The number of injured remains at eight, including one Saudi citizen."
In a statement released late Wednesday night, GACA said: "King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was attacked on Wednesday evening... The attack resulted in the death of a resident and injuries to eight others, ranging from minor to severe."
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced in the past few hours that it had intercepted and destroyed five drones.
On Wednesday, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that two people were killed and two others injured by falling debris after a drone targeting a facility in the Shaybah oil field, located in the oil-rich Eastern Province, was intercepted.
The Houthi attacks in recent days have reached an unprecedented scale, including several strikes on Riyadh airport. One such attack, on October 10, killed 13 people and injured hundreds more, marking the deadliest attack on Saudi territory in over a decade.
In total, 22 people have been killed in attacks on Saudi airports since the beginning of this month, including the victims of Wednesday's attack on Dammam airport.
