JJ Redick and the Los Angeles Lakers have a general idea on what their roster will look like going into the 2026-27 NBA season. However, there are certain players who may not have a longer stay with the franchise.
Los Angeles heavily retooled the roster to surround Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves with the best supporting cast possible. They added the likes of Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashveli, Kevon Looney, Quentin Grimes, and Matisse Thybulle among others. This comes following the departure of LeBron James, who left Los Angeles after eight seasons as he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Despite the big roster overturn, the Lakers may not be done making adjustments. NBA insider Brett Siegel appeared on a new episode of Clutch Scoops with Tomer Azarly, going over what sources have told Siegel about Los Angeles exploring options involving Jarred Vanderbilt and Dalton Knecht.

“They’re at 16 players on their active roster. And I’ve been told that in addition to looking at trading Jared Vanderbilt, which they’ve had no luck, no luck doing over the course of the last year, they’re also exploring trades, consolation trades for their roster to kind of slim it down, involving Dalton Knecht. They are looking to trade Dalton Knecht. He will not be a part of this roster long term,” Siegel said at the 20:40 mark.

What lies ahead for JJ Redick, Lakers this season
JJ Redick and the Lakers have set themselves up to begin the era of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in surprising fashion. They have a unique roster with solid talents across all positions, giving them a high ceiling going into this season.
Los Angeles finished with a 53-29 record last season, securing the fourth seed. They beat the Houston Rockets in six games before losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a four-game sweep.
Los Angeles has one more preseason contest to deal with, facing the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 16 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Their regular season gets underway at home when they host the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
