The Geological Survey of India (GSI), Marine and Coastal Survey Division, Mangaluru, will organise an E-Waste Collection Drive from October 21 to 23 for its employees and the public as part of the Special Campaign initiative.
The initiative aims to promote responsible disposal of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, prevent environmental pollution and raise awareness about the importance of scientific waste management, said a release. The drive is being organised in association with 4R Recyclers, Bengaluru, a government-registered recycler.
Public may bring old, broken, unused or discarded electrical and electronic items, including computers, laptops, printers, UPS units, mobile phones, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, televisions, voltage stabilisers and other household appliances operated by electricity or batteries.
Improper storage and disposal of e-waste pose significant risks to human health and the environment. Such waste often contains hazardous substances that can contaminate soil and water if not handled properly. Its collection and recycling through authorised channels help recover valuable materials, reduce pollution and promote a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
The participating recycler will facilitate collection of eligible e-waste and provide on-the-spot payment at applicable rates.
