All 21 of our Indian crew members, along with the rest of the crew are completely safe.…
In a post on X, Sonowal said all Indian crew members, along with the other crew members aboard the vessel, were safe. He added that authorities were closely monitoring the situation and remained in contact with the ship's management company to ensure the safety of the seafarers.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported the incident approximately 11 nautical miles west of Bukha, Oman.
According to a report by Times Kuwait, the strike triggered a fire aboard the tanker, which was later brought under control. The vessel reportedly remained stationary following the incident, with all crew members safe.
The incident comes days after another oil tanker carrying Indian seafarers was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz.
On October 16, crude oil tanker MT ST 3, carrying 15 Indian seafarers, was hit by a projectile in the same waterway. Sonowal had then confirmed that all Indian nationals aboard were safe and no casualties had been reported.
India has repeatedly condemned attacks on commercial shipping and maritime personnel, calling for the protection of seafarers and the freedom of navigation through international waterways.
New Delhi has maintained that attacks on merchant vessels and their crews are legally and morally indefensible and stressed the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime trade.
