President Lee Jae-myung will share the government's new policy direction for responding to demographic change with the public.
The presidential office said on the 13th that Lee will hold a ceremony proclaiming the nation's population strategy vision at the Blue House on the 14th, where he will lay out the vision and policy direction of the national population strategy. About 120 people will attend, including government and private-sector members of the Population Strategy Committee, representatives of the citizen panel on population policy, and figures from business, religious and academic circles.
The event carries the subtitle "Korea Changes the Game on Population." The presidential office said it is an occasion to share with the public a new national population strategy vision for responding to the demographic change facing Korean society.
The citizen panel on population policy attending the event will take part in a public forum in which citizens directly help design population policy. The 100 panel members, selected with consideration for representation by age, gender and region, will begin full-scale activities with this event.
The main contents of the First Basic Plan for National Population Strategy will also be announced. It is the first such plan drawn up by the Population Strategy Committee, which was expanded and reorganized from the Presidential Committee on Low Birth Rate and Aging Society following the enforcement of the Framework Act on Population Strategy in September.
A citizens' discussion session will also be held. Participants will discuss issues involving young adults, births, child-rearing and regional communities under the theme of "a society where anyone, wherever they live, can have hope and choose the life they want." They will also gather a range of views on policies for older adults, age tech and migrants under the theme of "a sustainable society where everyone is respected and lives together."
The event will be streamed live on KTV's official YouTube channel, where any member of the public can take part through real-time comments.
