(ANSA) - ROME, 20 OTT - Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala said Tuesday that the authorities' response to last weekend's rioting by youths in the city cannot solely regard how to put down violence of this kind.
"I agree with what many people are saying: this cannot be just a matter of repression," Sala said.
"Absolutely not".
The mayor also said that Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi is expected to attend a meeting of the Milan provincial committee on public order and security at the prefect's office on Wednesday.
Piantedosi accused Sala of being a "radical chic" lefty on Sunday after the city's first citizen said not enough police had been deployed to prevent the scenes of chaos at the weekend.
