By Zoila Palma: On October 23, 2026, the National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) issued a statement saying that it is aggrieved by the terrible situation resulting in charges against a church Pastor.
“Churches must have structures and guidelines that prevent such occurrences and create a culture in the Church that disallows these areas of abuse.
Abuse situations like this are alarming and shameful to the Church as a whole, going against everything that the Word of God teaches about spiritual leaders and God’s standards of holiness and leadership integrity. The young victims affected are in our prayers, and some of our leaders have already reached out to help with counselling ministry,” NEAB said.
NEAB says that the Court and the Law will process this legally, determining guilt and consequences.
“We pray for justice for the victims in this situation, as well as healing,” NEAB said.
NEAB added that victims have stated that they brought complaints to the leadership as far back as five years ago, and these were dismissed, no action was taken.
“If confirmed, this was a major breach of Kingdom of God and organizational protocols, which then allowed the alleged abuse to continue, affecting more people. We urge all Pastors, Churches and Ministries that when complaints of sexual impropriety are brought to a Leadership Team, they must be taken very seriously and acted on swiftly. When we fail in this area, we fail of that sacred duty of leadership in the Kingdom of God,” the association said.
NEAB urged victims to report to the police because when criminal lines are crossed, it requires a criminal investigation.
The association says that this should provoke discussions and leadership meetings in every church, with sincere hearted analysis and identifying areas of weakness.
