A MAN died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in an area at Batu 18, Jalan Air Putih, Kemaman, yesterday.
Hafizul Mat Nor, 40, was reportedly stung while attempting to harvest honey from a tree at approximately 9:50 am.
Kemaman District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli, said prior to the incident, the victim had asked a 44-year-old friend to accompany him to collect the honey.
He added that the victim’s friend had initially advised him against attempting to harvest the honey, noting that the tree was extremely tall.
According to him, the victim decided to climb the tree in question.
"While climbing the tree, a swarm of bees suddenly attacked and stung the victim. At that moment, the victim shouted for his companion to run and save himself.
"The victim attempted to climb back down to escape; both of them then ran and took refuge in a pool of water at a nearby plantation," he said.
Mohd Razi stated that the victim later mentioned that his arms and legs were in pain from the bee stings, before he climbed out of the pool of water and collapsed.
"His companion tried to wake him. However, upon realising that the victim was unconscious and experiencing convulsions, the friend immediately contacted emergency services.
"The friend promptly requested an ambulance, and the victim was rushed to Kemaman Hospital for further treatment," he said.
He added that the victim was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:42 pm. – October 25, 2026
