Kathmandu, October 15
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Khushbu Oli has concluded that Parliament was ineffective in lawmaking during its monsoon session, saying political accusations between the ruling and opposition parties overshadowed public concerns and legislative debates.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday to release her parliamentary report card, Oli accused the government of failing to coordinate adequately with Parliament throughout the session.
Oli said she had raised issues concerning public livelihoods, civil rights, workers’ problems, public expenditure oversight and government accountability.
These included petroleum price hikes, fertiliser and cooking gas supplies, irregularities in agricultural subsidies, possible tax evasion in vehicle imports, the 7 per cent tax on ride-sharing services and problems in healthcare. She also highlighted cuts in grants to local governments and the need to prioritise budget allocations based on public needs.
Oli said she had raised concerns over Nepali women facing human trafficking in Gulf countries, the problems of Nepali women in Kuwait and efforts to repatriate Nepalis stranded abroad. She claimed to have helped bring some Nepalis, including Sharmila Darji, back home.
She also highlighted issues involving intern doctors, labour rights, safe motherhood, waste management, climate justice and disaster management.
Oli pledged to continue prioritising evidence-based oversight, transparency, civil rights and public concerns in the coming days.
