In a post shared on Monday, 20 October, the legislator opened up about losing his father at an early age, describing fathers as the anchors that hold families together.
Babu Owino remembers dad Dominic
Babu revealed that his father passed away while he was still in Class Three, a loss that shaped his journey in ways he continues to carry with him.
"To my dad, Domnic Owino. You left us when I was in Class Three. I remember how hard you worked to provide for us and how well you took care of our family. You gave us your best and left us with memories I will always cherish," he wrote.
Despite the hardship that came with growing up fatherless, Babu said faith kept him going.
"Growing up without you was not easy, but God has been faithful to us. Dad, I wish you were here to see the person I have become. I wish I could sit with you again and tell you how far we have come. Today, I celebrate the man you were and the love you gave us. Wewe ni shujaa wangu," he added.
Babu also honours Raila Odinga's memory
The tribute did not stop with his biological father. Babu also turned his attention to the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, noting that a year has passed since his death, yet the void he left behind remains as sharp as ever.
"It has been a year since we lost you, yet your absence is still deeply felt. You gave me the opportunity to serve under you and became more than a leader. You became a father, a mentor and an advisor," Babu wrote.
He praised Raila for his belief in young people and his lasting imprint on Kenya's political landscape.
"Baba, we miss you. Your legacy lives on in the people you mentored and the generations you inspired. Wewe ni shujaa wangu," the MP said.
Babu rounded off the tribute by celebrating all fathers who quietly sacrifice for their families each day, as well as those whose memories continue to inspire those left behind.
The post drew thousands of reactions from Kenyans, many of whom praised the legislator for honouring both men in such a heartfelt and public way.
