- Ryeen Muthoni Kibiru was a struggling BOM teacher when she first voiced her dream of moving to the US
- A close friend told her to stop talking about America, convinced it would never happen given her financial situation at the time
- Ryeen chose to keep believing despite having no clear plan, no contacts in the US, and no idea how she would ever make it work
Ryeen Muthoni Kibiru, a Kenyan teacher who was employed on Board of Management terms with no government posting, held tightly to a dream of one day setting foot in the US, even when everything around her suggested otherwise.

Financially stretched and without a single contact in America, not even someone from her own village, Ryeen kept the dream alive while those closest to her found it hard to share her optimism.
Best Friend Told Her to Stop Dreaming
One moment stood out above the rest. A friend, tired of hearing about America, told her plainly to stop talking about it because it was never going to happen.
"I understood her," Ryeen later said, adding that the two now look back on that exchange with laughter.
At the time, though, the words carried weight. Ryeen had no plan, no network, and no visible route to make the dream a reality. By her own admission, she could easily have talked herself out of it.
"Even I could have easily convinced myself that it was just a dream," she wrote. But she did not.
Chose to Believe Without Roadmap
What kept her going was not a clear strategy but a stubborn refusal to let go of something she wanted simply because it looked impossible.
She did not know when it would happen or how the pieces would fall into place. She only knew she was not ready to quit.
Reflecting on that period, Ryeen shared a thought that has since resonated with many who have followed her story: that dreams often take root long before any realistic path toward them becomes visible.
Taking small steps in the direction of a hoped-for life, she suggested, matters even when the full picture is far from clear.
