Netflix will broadcast all 104 matches of the 2030 men’s World Cup live in Spain and Andorra, securing a major football rights deal as Spain prepares to help host the tournament as defending champion.
The California-based streaming company announced the agreement on Tuesday, without revealing its financial terms. It will be Netflix’s first broadcast of a major men’s international football tournament in Spain, extending its expansion into live sport.
Although Netflix has acquired exclusive rights for the two territories, the agreement includes free viewing arrangements in Spain. One match per matchday will be available without charge, while a package covering every Spanish national team game, both semi-finals and the final will be offered to a nationwide free-to-air broadcaster.
The television partner has yet to be named. Netflix said further details would be announced nearer the tournament.
Spain’s public broadcaster TVE also declined to comment on whether it would seek to acquire the free-to-air package.
Spain to host as reigning champion
The tournament will be staged principally in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay each hosting a special centenary match. The South American fixtures will commemorate the first World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930.
Spain will enter the competition as reigning world champion after winning this year’s tournament in North America. ALSO READ: Spain crowned World Cup champions after extra-time triumph over Argentina.
‘Few events unite people like the World Cup,’ said Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria.
‘I was in the stands this year as Spain lifted the trophy and witnessed the passion, the pride, the stories – they all become part of a nation’s culture and are remembered for generations.’
Netflix also plans studio coverage before and after games and at half-time, with a Spanish perspective, alongside daily matchday round-ups and programmes ahead of the competition.
The agreement represents a change from Spain’s broadcasting arrangements for the 2026 World Cup. TVE showed the national team’s matches, while viewers could follow all 104 fixtures through DAZN, which distributed Mediapro’s dedicated pay-TV World Cup channel.
A bigger role in live sport
For Netflix, the acquisition strengthens both its relationship with FIFA and its growing challenge to established sports broadcasters.
The company already holds rights in the United States and Canada to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil and the 2031 edition, which will be hosted jointly by Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and the United States.
Its live sports portfolio also spans NFL American football, MLB baseball, WWE wrestling, boxing and mixed martial arts.
FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström welcomed the latest agreement.
‘pWe are pleased to build on our partnership with Netflix as we look ahead to the FIFA World Cup 2030.’
‘Our shared ambition is to bring fans closer to the game and enable as many people as possible to share in the excitement of the competition,’ he said.
