The value of transactions for which consideration was disclosed rose by 39% y/y to USD 4.1 billion, Cursdeguvernare.ro reported.
Approximately 60% of this amount was concentrated in three major deals announced in the first half of the year: Pavăl Holding’s acquisition of Carrefour Romania for USD 977 million, Premier Energy’s takeover of Evryo Group for USD 824 million, and Raiffeisen Bank International’s acquisition of Garanti BBVA Romania for USD 681 million.
No major deals were reported in the third quarter, and local M&A activity slowed. Transaction volume fell by 9% y/y, while the value of reported deals declined by 15%. No transaction exceeded USD 100 mln, compared with one such deal in the same period of 2025, when Pavăl Holding acquired Greek retailer Praktiker Hellas for approximately USD 151 million.
One of the notable transactions announced in Q3 was the acquisition of Pall-Ex Romania by BoldMind Capital Partners together with the company’s executive management team. The leveraged buyout was valued at approximately USD 29 million. Pall-Ex Romania provides domestic and international distribution services for palletised goods and is part of a European distribution network.
Another notable transaction, although excluded from EY’s Romanian M&A database, was the voluntary public takeover offer launched by Canadian company Alimentation Couche-Tard for Żabka Group, Poland’s largest convenience-store retailer. Żabka operates more than 13,000 stores in Poland and Romania, with its Romanian outlets trading under the Froo brand. The offer implies an equity value of approximately USD 8.6 billion for Żabka Group.
