The New York Jets have had an up-and-down start to the 2026 NFL season, sitting at 2-4 after six games.
They opened with a 23-10 win over the Titans in Tennessee, but then dropped their next three games against the Packers, Lions, and Bears. All three are considered playoff contenders, and two of those losses came on the road, so it wasn't all bad for New York. But they only narrowly scraped by the Browns after that, and then fell to New England in Week 6.
Injuries have played a factor, particularly on offense. Star running back Breece Hall has missed the last three games with a quadriceps injury, leaving the Jets without their most explosive offensive weapon. Braelon Allen has stepped up in the meantime, rushing for 314 yards and two touchdowns on 74 carries (4.2 yards per carry) through the first six games of the season, including a 116-yard performance against Cleveland in Week 5.
But while Allen has looked good, the Jets would probably like to have Hall back in the rotation given their rocky start to the season. Turns out, that could be happening sooner rather than later as Hall returned to the practice field on Thursday for the first time since suffering the quad injury, an encouraging sign ahead of Sunday's game against the winless Dolphins.

Hall went down with the injury during the fourth quarter of the Jets' loss to Detroit on Sept. 27. He was tackled for no gain on a second-and-goal run and immediately ruled out for the rest of the game. An MRI showed less damage than initially feared, but he's now missed nearly a full month of action.
Before the injury, Hall had rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown on 51 carries, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry, but had also racked up 102 receiving yards on 10 catches. His explosive dual-threat ability is something Allen can't replicate, so having Hall back Sunday against Miami would provide this offense with a massive boost.

Hall was a limited participant in practice Thursday, but there's still optimism he could play against the Dolphins on Sunday. If he isn't ready to go, though, Allen would again handle lead back duties, and Hall would turn his attention to Week 8 against the Raiders at MetLife Stadium. After that, the Jets will travel to Kansas City before hosting the Bills.
