Salam TV has held Jumah prayers at Masjid Noor in Duhaga, Hoima City, ahead of the seventh edition of the Omumanyi wa Salam Bunyoro-Tooro Region Finals, with Muslim leaders emphasising the importance of the Quran in guiding personal conduct and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The prayers brought together members of the Muslim community, Salam TV representatives and local leaders as preparations continued for the regional competition scheduled for Saturday at Bwikya Hill in Hoima City.
The Jumah sermon was delivered by Imam Kaggwa Hamis, who highlighted the central role of the Quran in Islamic teachings and its relevance to Muslims and the wider community.
Imam Kaggwa explained that Muslims believe the Quran is the final revelation from Allah to humankind, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Angel Jibril.
He described the Quran as the primary source of Islamic belief, known as Aqeedah, law and guidance for everyday life, covering worship, morality, family relations, business and justice.
The Imam said the holy book guides believers towards the right path, known as Sirat al-Mustaqim, while helping them distinguish between truth and falsehood.
He encouraged Muslims to regularly recite, memorise and reflect on the Quran, noting that these practices constitute acts of worship that strengthen one's relationship with Allah and nurture spiritual wellbeing.
According to Imam Kaggwa, the Quran also promotes virtues such as honesty, patience, justice, compassion and brotherhood, which are essential for building harmonious communities.
He added that the Quran unites Muslims across different tribes, races and nationalities, providing a shared foundation of faith and moral responsibility.
The Imam further noted that Islamic teachings encourage the pursuit of knowledge, critical reflection and peaceful coexistence. He described the Quran as a source of spiritual guidance and comfort for believers facing personal and psychological challenges.
He emphasised that its teachings extend beyond any single ethnic or national group, highlighting Islam's message of mercy and guidance for humanity.
Imam Kaggwa also pointed to the Quran's emphasis on justice, equality and the protection of the rights of women, children, neighbours and vulnerable members of society. He said the teachings condemn oppression and corruption while encouraging respect for human life, dialogue and peaceful relations.
Addressing the congregation after the prayers, Hajji Karim Kaliisa, the Managing Director of Salam TV and Salam Charity, thanked Muslims in Hoima for their patience, commitment and continued support for initiatives aimed at developing the region.
Kaliisa pledged that Salam TV would continue supporting communities through various social and economic empowerment initiatives, including its Smart Community Programme.
He said the broadcaster remained committed to using its platforms and community projects to contribute to development and improve people's livelihoods.
Amuli Kintu Kasugga, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Hoima City, also addressed the congregation, encouraging Muslims to embrace development initiatives organised by Salam TV.
Kasugga cited Omumanyi wa Salam and other community programmes as opportunities to promote knowledge, participation and socioeconomic development.
He urged community members to support initiatives that bring people together and contribute to the region's progress.
Following the prayers, the Salam TV delegation paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Hoima City Imams Association.
During the visit, Kaliisa commended the association for its role in promoting Muslim development, particularly through initiatives that bring Imams together to strengthen cooperation, self-reliance and sustainability.
The engagement formed part of Salam TV's activities ahead of the Omumanyi wa Salam Bunyoro-Tooro regional competition.
The seventh edition of the regional finals is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Bwikya Hill in Hoima City, running from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The event is expected to bring together participants and community members for the regional competition, which forms part of Salam TV's wider engagement with Muslim communities across Uganda.
