(ANSA) - ROMA, 19 OTT - Italian Sports Day, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to showcase—through sports and its leading figures—Italian excellence, clusters, and industries in the sector, has sparked great interest and enthusiasm among the Georgian public: thanks in part to the exceptional event organized by the Italian Embassy in Tbilisi in collaboration with Sports Orient, a global marketing agency.
The stars of the “Golden Week of Football,” held yesterday at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theater in Tbilisi, were two prominent figures from the world of soccer: Francesco Totti, 2006 World Cup champion, a legend of Italian and world soccer and considered one of the greatest Italian soccer players of all time, and Paolo Condò, an Italian commentator and essayist, one of the best-known sports journalists, and the Italian member of the international jury that awards the Ballon d’Or, soccer’s highest individual honor.
The event was preceded by a reception at the Italian Residence, where Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono hosted the distinguished Italian guests, along with AC Milan legend and Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, the Head of International Projects for Lega Serie A, Mootaz Chehade, representatives of Georgian soccer, and professionals from the sports sector. In particular, the meeting provided an opportunity for Francesco Totti to symbolically present the Serie A Scudetto to the Mayor of Tbilisi.
“It is a great pleasure to welcome two such important figures from Italian sports and journalism to Tbilisi. Francesco Totti, the symbol and longtime captain of the Giallorossi, represents an extraordinary chapter in the history of Italian soccer, while Paolo Condò is one of the most authoritative and passionate voices in our sports journalism,” stated Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono. “Their presence in Georgia, alongside the Scudetto brought to Tbilisi specifically by the Serie A League, is yet another opportunity to highlight the deep bonds of friendship between Italy and Georgia through soccer, a sport that captivates millions of fans around the world and which, through its ability to unite different people, nations, and cultures, serves as an important tool for dialogue and solidarity,” he added.
