BUSAN — Dongwon Global Terminal Busan and Young Chemical will invest a combined 300 billion won ($208 million) in the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, expanding port automation equipment and building new manufacturing facilities for medical supplies and cosmetics.
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority said on the 20th that it signed investment agreements with the two companies, together with South Gyeongsang Province and Changwon, at the 2026 South Gyeongsang Province Investment Promotion Briefing held at the Westin Josun Seoul.
Dongwon Global Terminal Busan will invest 200 billion won by 2028 in the area around the West Container Terminal at Busan New Port in Jinhae District, Changwon. The company plans to add automated container transport and loading equipment as well as operating systems to strengthen smart port operations at Busan New Port, and will hire 88 workers. Dongwon Global Terminal opened and has operated South Korea's first fully automated container terminal at the West Container Terminal in Busan New Port since April 2024.
Young Chemical, a medical supply manufacturer, will build a 33,000-square-meter production facility by 2029 in the second phase of the Ungdong hinterland complex in Jinhae District, Changwon. The 100 billion won investment will create new production lines for medical supplies and cosmetics and add 60 jobs. Young Chemical, based in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, makes adhesive bandages, medical tape and wound dressings.
The authority said it expects the investments to modernize port logistics infrastructure while broadening the base for manufacturing tenants, contributing to industrial diversification and job creation in the region. It plans to work with South Gyeongsang Province and Changwon to support permits and other administrative procedures and to resolve any difficulties the companies face.
"This will be an opportunity to strengthen the smart port competitiveness of Busan New Port and expand the manufacturing base," said Park Sung-ho, commissioner of the authority. "We will provide support so that the investments proceed without setbacks."
