Twosome Place has opened its first store in the United States, launching its push into the local market. Customers packed the store from the first day, with the cakes and Korean-style drinks that made the chain popular at home drawing a strong response.
The first store, which opened on the 17th in Alexandria, Virginia, had visitors lining up before business hours began, Twosome Place said on the 19th. Customers kept coming after the 7 a.m. opening, with waiting lines forming until closing at 8 p.m.
Korean dessert staples led first-day sales. The top sellers were "Spoonable Abak," an icebox cake, and "Spoonable Sochosaeng," a chocolate cake made with strawberries. Among drinks, black sesame latte and dalgona cream top stood out. Some customers traveled from other areas, including New York and Baltimore, Maryland, the company said.
The first U.S. store is located on King Street in Old Town, Alexandria's main commercial district. Spanning about 2,600 square feet, it has 78 seats including an outdoor terrace. The store offers about 80 menu items, including cakes, coffee and meals. Alongside signature cakes "Sochosaeng" and "Spoonable Abak," it sells black sesame and injeolmi rice cake varieties, and offers Korean-style drinks such as a roasted grain powder drink called misugaru frappe and Korean apple cinnamon tea. Whole cakes can be bought on the spot without a reservation.
The chain has also beefed up its food menu. It has introduced items such as brioche K-toast, Seoul spicy chicken panini and bulgogi bibim bowl, aiming to capture dining demand across different times of the day, including breakfast and lunch, not just dessert. Through this, it plans to establish locally the Twosome Place dessert culture of enjoying coffee and cake together.
Twosome Place will run stores directly through a local subsidiary in the early stage of its U.S. business. After building up customer preference data and store operating experience at the first location, it will expand into the so-called "DMV" area covering Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The goal is to secure more than 10 stores in the region, and the company is internally reviewing plans to increase that to as many as 15.
Once it has established a business base in the United States, the chain plans to widen its reach to other countries. Twosome Place intends to pursue additional overseas markets from 2028, drawing on the operating experience gained in the U.S. market. "We will carefully reflect local customers' feedback to raise the quality of our products and services, and establish ourselves as a premium dessert cafe that U.S. customers can visit and enjoy at any time of day," CEO Moon Young-joo said.
