The South-South state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of poor leadership and sidelining established party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The six chairmen announced their position in a joint statement on Wednesday, expressing dissatisfaction with the way Makinde has been handling preparations for the presidential campaign.
They alleged that the candidate had failed to adequately consult the party’s existing leadership and had appointed campaign coordinators who were not members of the APM.
According to the chairmen, the alleged exclusion of party officials from key campaign decisions has raised concerns about Makinde’s commitment to the party’s established structures.
They said they were particularly troubled by what they described as “inadequate recognition, consultation and engagement with the party’s established leadership in organising the presidential campaign.”
The statement was signed by Dagodog Whyte of Rivers State, Peace Osarama of Bayelsa State, Utuku Abangaye Edet of Akwa Ibom State, Ugoigwe Onyeka Ogechukwu of Edo State, Prince Henry Ese of Delta State and Ntami Nkanu Esage of Cross River State.
The chairmen also accused Makinde of dishonesty, mishandling funds and failing to provide the leadership they expected from a presidential candidate.
“We have realised that our Presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde lacks substance, the political will and focus to lead us right as a Presidential candidate,” the statement read.

They further alleged that Makinde was pursuing his personal political ambition at the expense of the party’s collective interests.
The South-South leaders maintained that campaign appointments and other strategic decisions should involve existing party structures rather than individuals they claimed were brought in from outside the organisation.
