Four people were killed and several others injured in separate incidents involving an airport and an oil facility in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, authorities said.
Falling debris from the interception of a drone targeting a processing facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field killed two people and injured two others, the kingdom’s Energy Ministry said.
“The attempted attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals, a Filipino and a Nepali, and injuries to two others,” the ministry said in a statement.
The incident also caused a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the oil facility’s perimeter. Operations at the facility were unaffected, the ministry added.
A Pakistani and an Indian resident were also injured in the incident at the oil field.
Separately, an attack on King Fahd Airport in Dammam on Wednesday killed two people and injured eight others, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said early Thursday.
Meanwhile, four drones were intercepted over Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, according to the coalition supporting the internationally recognised government of Yemen.
The coalition said on Wednesday that it had intercepted seven drones launched towards Saudi Arabia, including drones heading towards the Madinah region, home to the Prophet’s Mosque.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said four drones had been intercepted and destroyed in the Eastern Province and Madinah. He later announced another interception in the Eastern Province.
On Wednesday evening, the coalition also reported intercepting a sixth drone heading towards the kingdom’s southern region and a seventh targeting the Eastern Province.
